About the Case

We need your help standing up to the weaponization of political correctness! Center for American Liberty clients Nicole Anderson and David Nelson have been charged with a hate crime for painting over a temporary BLM mural that had been painted in front of the Wakefield Taylor Courthouse.

For weeks, we’ve all witnessed “peaceful protestors” take to the streets every night destroying statues, vandalizing private property, and intimidating local residents and business owners—under the BLM banner. BLM has advocated for the defunding of police, the decriminalization of prostitution, and a Marxist redistribution of wealth in the form of community “collective ownership.” Yet, the City of Martinez quickly granted a permit for a temporary BLM mural—bypassing standard permitting procedures.

When Ms. Anderson attempted to express her viewpoint opposing the BLM organization for its radical viewpoints, she was charged with a hate crime. This politically motivated charge is outrageous and ignores California law.

If convicted, Ms. Anderson could face up to a year in jail, according to the Contra Costa District Attorney.
